Tahi ra – Day One
Kia ora whanau from the good ship to the landlubbers!
We left Opua and eased our way up the channel under the heat of the sun. After an introductory name game, our trainees got unpacked and settled in, only to be called up on deck. “Dolphins! Dolphins ahead!” We all rushed to the bow and got a great view of bottlenose dolphins, what a great start to our voyage!
As we made our way to Moturoa and the Black Rocks, most of our trainees were keen to climb the rig and go up on the bow sprit. Soon after, we dropped anchor and enjoyed a lunch of tasty soup and scones. Our bellies full, we made our way to shore for a tramp up the hill and along the ridge. By the time we came back aboard, a breeze had picked up and we headed for Urupukapuka Island. We are now anchored in Paradise Bay while our supper is simmering on the stove and the trainees are playing games or just chatting on deck. I hear a guitar playing somewhere. Life is good.
