So Thursday 13^th December, had dawned upon us all rather fast I have to admit. But it was the day of our second Tucker Trainees Reunion – it was really good seeing it all come together and finally see the day in action, and wow, what a stunner of a day we had for the reunion too! But I couldn’t have organised yesterday, wihout the help of my committee members; Penelope and Ginni – thanks girls, and of course from Jane and everyone else that had input into how yesterday was shaped!

We had the pleasure of hosting 20 former sail trainees  out on the ship for a whole day, with 10 other paying passengers, and 3 – 4 crew!

Tucker Trainees Reunion 2011

Saturday 17th December came around rather quickly for all of us eager beavers.. I mean us Sail Trainees of our Good Ship.

It was an amazing few months for me, organising the reunion, and I have to say a HUGE Thank-you to my two committee members (Ashlee & Ujenta) – you 2 have been an amazing help throughout these past month. Also, to Jane, Thank-you so, so much for being there for me, to bounce ideas off, for your input and all round support, while I’ve been organising the reunion! (:

Thank-you so much to our crew for today, I got a real surprise when I rocked on up, and saw Uncle Steve was coming aboard with us today! Hehehe. So, thank-you to Uncle Steve, Sophie, Marsha, & Rob, you guys are amazing! This day couldn’t have been any better, THANKS! (:

 

So, we set off from Opua, just after 0900 with a ship full of 10 former Sail Trainees, with Uncle Steve at the helm, we all got called around to play the Famous Name Game, there seemed to be a lot of moans about it…

We were soon at Russell, to pick up our 14 or so paying passengers – you guys managed to put up with us lot for the day, (; Haha.We left Russell Wharf, not until Uncle Steve had done his traditional “speech” to the passengers, before we set off, there were quite a few giggles coming from the trainees when they heard this..

So off we set, the crew started to get us trainees to hoist the sails, but what’s this? They were making us do it…. Golly, I don’t know… Haha, kidding guys(;  With the usual sails set, Steve decided to set the Course & the Gaff Tops’l, yeeha! – We soon got some good speed up, I clocked the fastest time today at around about 7.5kts!! Yeehaaa!

Throughout the day Chance & a few others took up the chance of ‘pegging’ people on thir clothing, without them noticing, mostly the crew, nice one guys! Got lot’s of laughs from it!!

We headed into one of the nice bays in the B.O.I’s – Roberton Island (Also known as Motuarohia, or Robbies)

Anchored, and started taking passengers ashore, then the trainees that wanted too, actually it was pretty much all of them, except for myself & Arumia, who stayed behind on the ship, with the crew. Shortly, it was time for lunch, oh, and to pick our passngers up..

After lunch, we hauled anchor… Girl Power! None of the boys wanted to help, so a few of us girls, gave Soph a hand to bring up the anchor. (:

Once that was done, we headed away from Robbies, and out into the open again, by this time the wind had picked up, so we got most of the sails set, and hit a good pase! We were healed over realllyyyy well at a couple of stages, which was fantastic. Then, we hit a squall, not just one but a couple actually, big heavy raindrops, and icy cold wind…. But we survived, (:

 

We soon arrived back at Russell Wharf around 1530hrs (3:30) and our paying passengers departed us, oh, but not before Uncle Steve could sing them a song… Something about “Goodbye little Tourists”… It was rather entertaining… Hehe.

 

Then, it was back to Opua… The day went rather quickly. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!

 

So, thank-you to those that came, it was a great pleasure meeting you all, and seeing a few of you once again, and to our crew: A MASSIVE THANK-YOU! you guys are absolutley amazing! xx

 

Our Sail Trainee Reunion, is over and done now… I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, & a Happy New Year!
