Kia Ora whanau and friends.
The wind was already roaring as we left Opua this morning with our 11 new trainees from Ngatiwai and their Kaumata Rodney Ngawaka, bound for a journey of discovery down the coast. We started the trip off with the name game followed by a tour of the ship, climbing the rigging and some lessons. Lunch was had in Whale Bay, a hearty hot soup to warm our bellies with freshly made scones. After dishes were done we decided to up anchor and take advantage of the 25 knot North Westerly winds.
With all the sails set we made our way towards Cape Brett, passed the Hole in the Rock and into Te Wi Bay for some fishing! With patience, luck and skill, Rodney and David managed to catch 4 decent sized snapper and a pigfish.
With the sun now set we are making our way into Whangamumu Harbour where we will be spending the night. Laughter is already ringing throughout the ship and everyone one is happy! Goodnight!
