Well its been a huge day for us today. We rose in the dark, at 4.30am, and left the leading lights of Tutukaka behind us. Up and onwards we steamed out to the Hen and Chicken Islands. The sun came up at around 7.30am as we were just getting the buckets of water from the sea to scrub the deck, still and hour or so before we arrived at the islands. There was a bit of ground swell rolling us around, a new feeling for all the trainees, as this week we have had huge amounts of sunshine, lack of wind and a mill pond sea state…

So, We have spent the day exploring the surrounding waters of the Hen and Chickens, trying our luck at some fishing, to no avail!! and a bit of snorkeling…Ellie and Shanee made a epic bread for our lunch, an octopus with his surrounding family of small bread fish, very yummy.

After a good spell at the islands, we made our way to the mighty Whangarei heads and have ducked into Urquharts Bay to shelter from the forecast wind that may come tonite…

We enjoyed the sunset from the shore, having a stretch of the legs, and a visit to smugglers cove.
Everyone is in good spirits, hatching a talent quest tonite, and soaking up each others company until tomorrow when we come into Marsden Cove Marina, and head off on our merry ways…
Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped this Tai Tokerau Challenge Week come to fruition. The winning school will be announced tomorrow, but we have all agreed that everyone is a winner this week…
See you 1400hrs tomorrow

thanks a again for the supportive comments coming from the schools and the familys, i have passed them on and everyone has the warm fuzzies….. looking fowards to coming home, but sure will miss those morning swims…..
