Greetings from the good ship R Tucker Thompson on the first of our 2015 Youth Voyages.
We are currently at anchor in Paradise Bay on Urupukapuka Island. The dishes are been cleared away after a great kai.
We left Opua with clear skies and mixed smiles as parents and caregivers waved from the dock and our attention shifted to life onboard. After the obligatory introduction of names and faces we anchored on the Russell peninsula for lunch and swim time for Ezra and Quinton, the decks were a little wet from the bombs. Then training began, first the man over board exercise successfully executed, then hoist sail and a gentle motor sail to Paradise. Procedure of Abandon Ship was the next training and the last for today.
Everyone is settling in to their new environment nicely, discussions regarding living in small spaces went round the table before dinner was served with a karakia.
Work books replaced dinner plates, yes it is a floating classroom in the full sense. Today is just hello day, already plans are underway for a full day tomorrow.
0700 swim, ship shape above and below decks, breakfast, work books then away in the bay for a great looking day.
