The Good Ship R Tucker Thompson is back at sea, with a new bunch of Northland Trainees. Marsden Cove astern, we went about introducing the ship, stowing gear away before setting sail, a man over board exercise as we began heading north towards our overnight anchorage at Tutukaka. The trainees were quick to grab a harness and go aloft to varying heights. Jason, Matt and Jackson were the first to reach the end of the yard and gain the right for a turk heads anklet or bracelet.
Once back on the deck a few were keen to swim at sunset before all went below for the first dinner and dishes. Into the classroom for a few lessons to set the weeks challenges, expectations and goals.
An early start in the morning to make the most of favourable weather and the opportunity for a dive at the Poor Knights Marine Reserve, kai moana apopo kahore.
