Shortly before departing, Matua Rodney greeted all the taitamariki who had been selected to take part in this year’s Ngatiwai voyage and welcomed them to the kaupapa of this special voyage on board our good ship.
After a brief mihi, a farewell to parents then a karakia the voyage got underway with bright sunshine and blustery sou’westerlies. The plan was to do our safety briefing and head down the coast outside the Bay for the first evening. Winds were in our favour and we have anchored up at Paparahi, just off Helena Bay were we are settling in for the night.
Matua Rodney has shared with us some kōrero about the areas we have visited followed by a visit to a Pa site on shore. We are doing the usual first days activities of getting to know each other challenges, and settling into the routine of life on board the ship.
