Tai Tokerau Challenge departed today

12 students, 6 schools all competing for the one trophy! It was a good call to delay departure by a day as Wednesday dawned grey and cloudy, but by the time the youngsters had arrived at Marsden cove, the clouds had departed, the skies were blue and the temperature warm and balmy. Mount Manaia hovered above the clouds like some ethereal city in the sky and as the ship departued the clouds rolled away.

Teams from Dargaville, Otamatea, Pompallier College, Whangaroa College, Opononi Area School and Whangaroa will all be competing for the trophy. The first day will be spent doing safety drills and familiarisation on board, most likely inside the harbour.

Our thanks go to Northpower and Top Energy for their sponsorship. And may the best team win!

  1. We are so chuffed Annick is able to be part of this exciting experience! Hubby felt quite jealous that he was not going. Enjoy your trip, have a ball and safe sailing!

  2. Huzzah….couldn’t ask for a better start, or a more blue sky day to initiate a grand adventure on the high seas….huzzah

(hope you all packed some sunblock)

  3. I would loved to have been a stowaway in my daughter’s luggage to enjoy this grand and wonderful, adventurous, exciting, intriguing journey. How awesome our Rangitahi. The mystical look of the clouds around the mountains in the background as they set sail gave a real sense that, this was the beginning of a lifetime experience these kids will NEVER EVER forget.
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
