Kia ora whanau, What an awesome day we had yesterday !! Some of the trainees were still talking about it this morning and how they could live on ‘The Barrier’. While we were completing our morning duties the Spirit of New Zealand crept into Smokehouse bay, Wow two tall ships in the one bay, but because we were there first we decided they deserved a hearty Ngapuhi haka !
So as we left , we motored close and let them have it. The haka, lead by Zay’yen, and performed by the others was awesome, it raised the few hairs I have left on my head and received cheers from ‘the Spirit’. We sailed off satisfied and looking for a fishing/dive spot. We ended up going south to the Broken islands, but our luck was still bad. Small fish greeted us fishermen, but the divers came back with another crayfish and a sack of kina. Yummo!! Another afternoon was passing as we swam and jumped from the ship, we then pulled anchor and headed north to Oruapure bay in Katherine bay for our night anchorage.
There is a whisper on board that if the winds are blowing from the right direction we may leave the ‘Barrier’ at midnight tonight and sail to the PoorKnights Islands for a dive tomorrow. See what happens later… Ma te wa whanau
