Bay of Islands Ipipiri Eco-sail

Two iconic Northland organisations offer one unique experience!

At the end of April 2016, Northland’s tall ship the R. Tucker Thompson partnered with Project Island Song to offer a two day, one night eco-sailing experience in the beautiful Bay of Islands. We will repeat this voyage based on demand, and need a minimum of 6 people to run the sailing. Alternatively it is possible to charter the ship exclusively for specific groups.

“The opportunity to be with like-minded people for shared conversation, education and experience of the huge sustainable conservation efforts by volunteer groups, participate in relevant ongoing mahi, to enrich ones soul and re-energise ones spirit by experiencing the wonder of Tawhiri mātea through sail on the sea”.

Project Island Song is a highly successful ecological restoration project on the islands of Ipipiri, bringing back the birds, native flora and fauna since 2009.  An extensive programme of pest management has enabled the reintroduction of a number of bird and flora species, which are living and breeding in their new homes.

Here’s your opportunity to visit the islands, hear the birdsong for yourself and see the difference their work is making. You’ll get a chance to help plant trees, listen to the birds and gain an understanding of the programme first hand. At the same time, you’ll be supporting their efforts, as part of your voyage fee will be donated directly to Project Island Song.

Step on board the R. Tucker Thompson and join one of the Project Island Song coordinators, who will share firsthand what has been achieved to date and their vision for the future. Normally the domain of Northland youth, this is also a rare opportunity for adults to experience this beautiful gaff-rigged schooner on an overnight stay, waking up to the birdsong in the Bay. Morning swims will be optional!
