Kia Ora Whanau. Today we welcomed 12 new trainees aboard. After our farewells with family and friends, we cast off of Opua wharf where we set the foresail and made our way towards Moturua Island. Along the way we introduced the trainees to each other with the name game before we split them into 2 teams, port and starboard, where we introduced them to the ship.
Our lunchtime anchorage was at Otupoho Bay where we were nicely sheltered from the cool 20 knot SW winds. After a hot veggie noodle soup we made our way onto shore to explore Moturua Island. We circumnavigated the island stopping at each beach to play a game, skim some rocks and chat.
After our walk, we returned to the ship where Repana, Ethan and Jacob had a refreshing dip testing their bombing skills. When the trainees were all nice and dry we gathered in the saloon to discuss life on the ship and negotiate the weekly treaty which everyone has signed.
We are currently making our way into Waipiro Bay where we will anchor for the night. Spaghetti Bolognese is for dinner and smelling delicious. After that we will clean up, do some lessons and play some games before bed. A great first day!
