Kia Ora from the R Tucker Thompson
After an exciting start when we left the wharf in the howling wind and rain that felt like bullets, the captain decided not to go around Tapeka as the trainees were rapidly losing enthusiasm and a couple of them, their breakfast. So we anchored off Matauwhi bay. The skies soon cleared and some went for a swim to get rid of their seasick feeling while others went for a climb up the rigging.
We then split into 4 groups to learn about the lines and teamed up into port and starboard groups for a parts-of-the-ship relay race. We then headed ashore and had a trek around rocks to the old Russell slipway. Back on the ship everyone was immediately in the water, hard to believe the great change in the weather, sun’s out and winds have dropped.
Everyone is down below having dinner and we are making plans for some challenges tomorrow
Goodnight all,
Po Marie
