Kia ora friends and family of the R. Tucker,

We started off our day with the famous morning swim! Trainees went straight from their bunks into the ocean, with Cory being the first in the water.

Once everyone had gotten dressed and hung up their togs to dry, they moved on to the morning chores- cleaning below decks, scrubbing the deck and polishing brass. Then breakfast was quickly consumed, followed by dishes.

Then we moved into some bookwork, learning about safety procedures at sea and going over our drills. After this, all the trainees had a go using the ships harnesses by climbing up the shrouds. Stah, Naomi, Brooke, Elina, Annie and Kayla made it look easy and before we knew it, they were sitting happily at the top of the shrouds. Elina and Annie were the first to complete the Tucker challenge, ka pai to them!

After this we had a bit of free time before lunch, so most of the trainees became well acquainted with the rope swing. Pae-Marie won best manu.

Lunch was a delicious macaroni cheese, made by Enes. After lunch, trainees learnt about line handling on-board the ship, going over line names and what they do.

After this information overload, we decided to up-anchor and head off to Oke Bay, our anchorage for the night. While underway, Brooke, Naomi and Kayla completed their Tucker challenge. Trainees are going to go ashore at Oke Bay to have a bit of fun and stretch their legs before dinner is ready.

The group energy is awesome and everyone is getting on excellently!

Po marie
