Kia Ora friends.
Some of the trainees woke up with the sun this morning, having spent the night on deck tucked under the course sail. Isla, Sarah and Emma lasted the whole night.
We went for a swim first thing, scoffed some breakfast and launched the little boats. We rotated through lil tuck sailing lessons with Emma, tender maneuvering and learnt a few navigation skills.
We then hauled anchor and set off on our big adventure to the other side. Noah and Kairewa we nimble as up the rigging to quickly release the topsails. We went for a sail, steered head on into the northerly swell and got a bit dunked on the bow sprit. Trish was a legend helping out with lunch down below, and whipped up some cheese scones in no time to go with the soup. After lunch, the breeze picked up and we had a lovely, slightly rolly sail over to Marsden cross. The team are really getting a hang of this sailing thing.
After arriving at our destination, we took the tender to shore for a walk and history lesson. A well earned chocolate was enjoyed at the top of the hill. The rain was falling softly as we made our way back to the ship which was quite magical. The afternoon was spent fishing, drawing pictures, helping out with the roast and having some quiet time. Dinner smells absolutely delicious as we sit here round the table thinking about our day. Happy Mother’s day to all you lovely mothers out there, we have been thinking of you lots. Big Hugs!!
