Kia ora whanau,
Finally some awesome weather! Wai was first in the water this morning, even though it was a very brisk one. Then chores were completed and breakfast was devoured. Then it was time to make the most of the sunshine. Trainees had a lesson on sailing and how the wind works, and then they had a chance to apply their knowledge on Lil Tuck. Unfortunately there was a bit of a lack of wind so instead, trainees learned how to operate the dingy and do a man overboard procedure. Wai, Archie S and Lesley completed the Tucker challenge too, well done!
Then we all went through an abandon ship procedure and what we do in an emergency, so all the trainees are clued up and ready if needed!
Then we went through engine checks, and the anchor was raised with the trainees becoming more and more independent each time.
Sails were raised and even though there wasn’t much wind, we had a nice time enjoying the sunshine and eating our lunch underway at a speed of about 2 knots.
Then we arrived at Paradise Bay in time for some time ashore. Games were played and then trainees did a big loop of the island finished with a 20 minute silence and some brownies as a reward!
We will have dinner in Paradise Bay and then haul anchor and go for a night mission in search of a less rocky night anchorage.
Trainees are becoming a solid team, with friendships already formed and awesome teamwork skills being applied on deck.
