Kia ora friends and whanau of the R. Tucker.
Last full day today and what a stunner of a day! We woke up for our swim with the sun rising on the horizon and perfect glassy ocean surrounding us. Even though it was very chilly, we all jumped in for a wash and then jumped out again very quickly, into the hot shower waiting on deck.
Then trainees completed their morning chores, rewarded with a hot brekky afterwards. After dishes, we launched the dingy and lil Tuck for trainees to have a turn learning how to drive the dingy and sail lil Tuck. Haydon, Daisy, Letita, Ardyn, Zack and Zoe also completed their Tucker challenges! Well done to them.
While this was happening, a cheeky brownie was being whipped up in the galley and the smells enticed everyone below. Some anklets were made, and the rope swing was used. A sausage sizzle was eaten for lunch and then it was time to hoist the anchor and go for an adventure.
Anchor raised and secured, trainees hoisted the mainsail, foresail, headsails and both topsails! Then we decided we needed more speed and set the course sail. Engine off and we were making a solid 4.5knots! Knot bad…
The brownie finally made an appearance, along with a whole tub of peanut butter and any fruit and veges the trainees could lay their hands on!
Finally, we ran out of wind so the sails came down and we turned the engine on to motor over to Roberton Island, our night anchorage.
Now, the smells of our pork roast dinner are wafting through the ship and trainees are eagerly awaiting our game of spotlight on the island tonight!
