Kia Ora whanau of the RTT,
What an action packed first day! We have a team of legends onboard this week, who constantly rose to every challenge we set. Bring on an awesome 7 days.
After leaving the dock we set the fore sail and headed to Russell. Underway we did a name game and set up our bunks for the week. We had lunch underway and dropped the anchor in the beautiful Matauwhi bay. We did a ship orientation and some climbing at anchor. All trainees completed the Tucker challenge, climbing aloft. A remarkable effort. We picked up a few extra stowaway crew members in Russell and then got ready to go sailing! After a basic line handling lesson, the group split into port and starboard watches and set their respective sails. We managed to get all our sails up on our passage over to whale bay, another awesome effort on day one. The sun was setting as we struck the sails and pulled into our home for the night. A great day indeed, lots of learning and some awesome new friendships. Looking forward to a well-earned dinner!
Until tomorrow,
Ma Te Wa.
