It’s day two of the Youth Voyage. We started the day at 7am with a morning swim. It was all hands on from then as they finished their morning duties.

We cruised down to Rangihoua Bay by Marsden Cross for a hike and history lesson. Yesterday, we heard moans and sloping feet going uphill on our walk. Today, it was a different story – the trainees took initiative and asked the crew to continue the hike to check out the Pa site! Ka Pai.

Once we reached the top we played a quick game to check our teamwork and communication, the trainees absolutely killed it! Eloise reckons they finished in a record time. It’s great to see everyone getting along so well, and starting to establish great friendships.

When we made it back to the Good Ship, it was time for a sailing lesson. Below deck in the classroom, the trainees learned about anchoring, survival techniques and more. On deck, it was all action, the trainees were thrown into the deep end, we started with line handling, and got the sails up. As we sailed towards Moturua Island, we had some high pressure moments, and the trainees handled it with ease and great communication.

Everyone was already drenched, so what better way to finish the afternoon with a milo and a swim. As we head into the evening, we’ll have a relaxed dinner and maybe have LJ play a tune for us on the guitar.
