Toru ra Kiaora Tucker whanau,
We woke up this morning to sunshine and blue skies! Trainees went for their morning swim, then completed their chores before breakfast. After breakfast dishes, we made the most of the beautiful day, taking out lil Tuck for a sail, doing dingy driving lessons and the famous Tucker challenge! After a few non-intentional swims and some excitement, a sausage sizzle was devoured for lunch.
Then trainees got into groups to do their engine checks, weather and navigation, and anchor duties. Anchor hoisted, we steamed over to Motuarohia to look for kina. Kate, Mercedes and Emma went ashore for a walk up the hill while all the other trainees got in the water for a snorkel. With a bucket full of kina, we went back to the ship for a big feed.
Then it was time for a sail! With some nice little white caps in the bay, we hoisted the mainsail, foresail, headsails and topsails with all trainees operating excellently as a team! Then for the next 2 hours, we tacked and gybed and tacked and gybed all the way down to our night anchorage. We even almost hit 8 knots of boat speed, with trainees getting super smooth with their line handling. Pulling up at Awaawaroa Bay again for the night, we dropped anchor and finally the trainees could sit down and get some rest. All except for Niwa who went up with Ness and furled the topsails.
Then we had an amazing vegetable curry for dinner, with a well deserved brownie for dessert. Another awesome day in the bay, with our team of trainees learning and growing, and killing it! Po marie.
