Our Supporters

We’d like to thank the people and businesses who give a little, or a lot.

The R. Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust is a non-for-profit organisation funded by tourism activity, grants, and generous sponsorships and donations. Our voyages wouldn’t be possible without our generous sponsors and donations made by the community.

Top-Energy-Tucker

Top Energy

Each year Top Energy generously sponsors an entire voyage. The focus of the voyage is leadership and empowering the future leaders of Northland.

Far North Holdings generously sponsor one voyage each year. Leadership in youth is the focus, along with supporting the growth and development of rangatahi in the north.

Total-Group-Tucker

Total Marine Group

The team at Total Marine Group support the Trust with sponsorship, engineering and other resources to ensure we keep the Tucker fully sea worthy. They are local, professional and always there to help.

Foundation North

Foundation North provides significant support to the Trust. The Foundation’s grant goes towards 75 placements each year and makes a difference to the lives of these young people.

Oxford-Trust-Tucker

Oxford Sports Trust

Oxford Sports Trust supports our programme by sponsoring placements throughout the year. The Trust generously provides funds to support the futures of Northland youth.

Lottery Grants

Lotteries support the programme by funding several youth onto voyages. The Grant Board particularly likes to see the places used for deserving youth who will make the most of the opportunity.

Rotary

We have several Northland Rotary groups that fundraise to youth to participate in a voyage on the R. Tucker Thompson. These generous contributions go towards helping young people who could not otherwise sail with us.

Lions

Local Lions groups from all over Northland support our programme by generously sponsoring youth voyages. Each placement is gratefully received.

Zonta

Zonta generously sponsors a youth placement, contributing towards one Northland young person getting to experience the 7-day voyage. Zonta members work hard to raise the funds and give generously to our cause

The wonderful people at Burnsco Opua have donated and discounted brand new lifejackets for our trainees to use on the ship. The team at Burnsco Opua are always keen to help us get the equipment we need.

Northland Toyota

Northland Toyota has kindly sponsored a car for our operations team. You’ll see us zooming around to buy food and equipment to get the ship ready for our voyages.

Explore Group Ltd

Explore and Fullers Bay of Islands support us in our summer commercial operations. They have generously supported us in sales and marketing, bookings systems and helping our customers to have the perfect start to the Tucker experience.

Northpower

Northpower

Northpower generously sponsored our inaugural Rere Tahi – Fly Together youth voyage, a joint initiative between Te Toki Voyaging Trust and our sailing trust with the aim of empowering Northland youth.

Special folks

Liz Greening

Liz donates her time every single voyage. She meets the ship as it comes in and takes on the mighty job of the laundry. She collects and brings us donations from the community and is a key member of our team.

Terry Dunn

Terry is not only our relief skipper; he also sponsors one child a year by making a monthly payment. Terry is passionate about our ship and kaupapa and always picks up the phone when we need his help. His contribution and energy to the Trust is highly valued.

Joff Beilby

Joff helps our Bosun in the Tucker shed with woodwork. His attention to detail is much appreciated for the Good Ship. We love his enthusiasm and always stays for a cuppa to share stories.
