We’d like to introduce one of our amazing volunteer crew, Lola Doidge. Lola came on board as a Trainee last year October, on our special Parent to Parent voyages.
At only 14 years old, she jumped on board with already a few sailing skills under her belt, having lived on a classic boat for most of her younger years with her father Paul, mother Emma, and sister Isla.
As soon as she finished her voyage, she was eager to get back on board. She’s now spending the summer volunteering on board the Tucker, helping with our Day Sails and always lending an extra hand where needed.
Lola is self-driven, and spends her weekdays attending Te Kura correspondence school from home. She says she loves the team environment on board and learning about the ship, she calls the crew her second family and always comes to work with a big smile on her face, ready for the day.
In the future, Lola aspires to work on classic boats, and likes the idea of moving into similar work that we do with our youth development voyages.
Lola is one of the Tucker whanau, she has been committed all summer sailing with us and we appreciate all of the help she gave our crew. Her future looks bright, and we’re stoked to play a part in her learning as she grows older.
