YTH2304 – rā tuarima – day 5

Hello friends and whanau,

There was not a dramatic race to be the first in the water this morning, we are starting to feel all our adventures catch up to us and took a bit more rustling out of bed by the crew.
We started our day off with a mean feed, then we learned our phonetic alphabet through a hand tappy game. A quiz on our local history with chocy fish for the win was up next to prime us for a walk on Moturua island. Our stroll through the bush turned into a mighty hike as we did the circuit around the whole island. We were stoked to see a whole flock of saddle back birdies on the island as well. A good feed for lunch then it was up the rigging where we all finished the Tucker Challenge like the legends that we are. Set the main, set the fore, loose the toppies… it was time for a sail and the rain wasn’t holding us back. We practiced more of our tacking making our way up and down the inner bay till we landed at our night anchorage at Motuarohia, our sailing was so top notch that we even sailed on to the anchor. With sails stowed in record time to evade the rain it was time to settle inside for a hearty feed of nachos and sticky date pudding, delish.

More tomorrow

Good night
