Good evening our families and friends,
The last full day of our voyage today and we’ve had a good one! We woke up at Waiwhāpuku Army Bay this morning after a successful kiwi spotting walk last night (it’s amazing how well kiwi can walk down steep banks!). Once we had completed our second to last morning swim and chores (getting efficient now) we were treated to pancakes from our captain Marcel. These didn’t last long!
The trainees then set about electing their own captain, first mate and sail station crews. They plotted their course to our anchorage for the night, Te Pahi Islands, and planned out what they wanted to do along the way.
First stop was Motuarohia, where most went ashore and walked up to the look out, while a couple of us stayed on board and tried our luck fishing. No bites today but that was fine because Kym had made us a big roast for lunch. Oh the gravy! We staggered back to our stations once the dishes were done and set sail for the Black Rocks. There, most went for an explore and a swim while some had some arts and crafts time.
Just before we left, Marcel pulled a big lemon sour cream cake out of the oven, candles were put in it and we sang our Navy recruitment ambassador Makuini Happy Birthday for her 23rd time. Another quick motor passage gave us just enough time to stow sails. We are now at our familiar last night anchorage of Te Pahi Islands. We are getting ready for some shore time and ceremony, along with dinner.
It is a happy vibe onboard with a group that has gotten on well and had a great week together. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow but we will be sad to leave. Get your hot water cylinders ready!
Love from us.
P.S 1pm at Opua Wharf tomorrow
