Last night our night sail under the milky way was so magnificent. Sky full of stars and bioluminescence lighting up the bow. We couldn’t have asked for a better sail. This morning we woke to a frosted deck and mist over the water of Rangihoua Bay. We kept telling ourselves that it was just the steam coming out of a hot water spring. Regardless of our imagination we had to jump in anyway. It was surprisingly warm. We had a busy morning planned, so it was straight into cleaning and breakfast. We then lifted the hook and headed to the Black Rocks for our breakfast with the biologist activity. We were greeted by Tri Oceans who specialise in marine mammal science and marine education here in the Bay of Islands. Today we learnt so much to cover in one blog, a few things we did learn were types of whales, the types of food sources in the ocean, we even had a look at plankton under a microscope and drove a remotely operated vehicle (underwater drone) and saw heaps of fish. We said goodbye to our friends at Tri Oceans and headed for an adventure onto the Black Rocks. After a decent time of exploring the rocks we went back on to the ship for a pumpkin soup lunch and a motor sail over to Cape Wiwiki for more exploring of caves, blow holes and a seal colony sunbathing. Now we’re heading to Oke Bay for a calm anchorage for the night. It’s roast pork and potato bake for dinner tonight. Later on we look to play spot light on the beach and enjoying each other’s company. What a great day full of learnings and new experiences. Tomorrow we take over the ship.
