Happy Saturday! With sun rising, morning swim and chores completed, we cracked into a warming breakfast of homemade hash brown, spaghetti, toast and cereals. With full bellies and ready for the day, it was time to sail to Motuarohia/Roberton Island, where the trainees would tackle the Tucker challenge. Cheers of support ringing across the bay, the trainees climbed and reached for the end of the lower yard, with shakey legs and smiles full of pride, they completed their challenge. Following a pool party off the ship, it was time for a celebration lunch. For today’s karakia we each shared something that was worth celebrating from the last few days and sang a song before enjoying hot apple and apricot crumbles with custard.
Dishes cleaned, the team headed to land to learn a little of the rich history of the island, enjoy the lookout, and have some solo time while overlooking the bay. While there, the team had a chance to admire the lagoon from above, and get excited to explore from below, so back to the ship to wetsuit, mask and snorkel up, then back again for snorkeling and kina collecting in natures great swimming pool.
Back on the ship, we enjoyed a hot shower, hot chocolate, and headed for Paradise Bay of Urupukapuka Island for our night anchorage. The place lives up to its name, with a stunning orange sunset to welcome the ship in, while midships team climbed the rigging to stow the topsails. We’re preparing the table for dinner – Tom’s special boil up with dough boys. This evening the Trainees will prepare for their ship takeover day tomorrow and finish up with a game.
Thanks for checking in, tune in tomorrow for more adventures!
