Our day started with a morning dip in the ocean, the sun was just waking up. Not long after our swim we were into our cleaning stations, scrubbing the deck, cleaning below and scrubbing the head. Breakfast was up, mince and scrambled eggs on toast. It was time to have breakfast with the biologist so we lifted anchor and met them at spot X where students from Tri Oceans took us through a kōura study in the Bay of Islands. There we learnt so much about our kōura and why it’s so important to throw the big ones back. We went for a dive and spotted a few good sized kōura and plenty of sea life. What an amazing experience! It was time to wave off our friends as they carried on with their research. We wish them all the best for the remainder of their course. It was lunch time, a well deserved pumpkin soup and cheesy garlic bread dippers was on the offer. We decided to race the sun to the horizon, this led us to the direction of the Cavalli Islands, the sun was keen and so were we. We ripped across the Bay, past Purerua Peninsula, Takou Bay and into Waiiti Bay. The sun had just set as we dropped our anchor, with a beautiful display of reds and pinks on the horizon, it was a tie for the race today however, there’s always tomorrow. Now for dinner we’re enjoying a delicious marinated chicken. We have a few night activities in mind, perhaps a game of spotlight on the ship. What a huge day.
