YTH 2410- Rā Tuarua- Day 1&2

What amazing start to the voyage! After leaving Opua we sat and learnt each others names whilst waiting for a delicious Mac n cheese lunch. After eating we split into our sail stations for the week and learnt about the ship, whilst under sail on the inside of the islands we learnt how to use the harnesses and climbed up and over the rigging. By this point the swell had picked up and we all headed out on the bowsprit getting dunked in the water. Once everyone was sufficiently wet, we tacked theship and headed to our calm anchorage for the night. After a lovely dinner of nachos we all played hide and seek before calling it a night.

Day 2!
We started our morning with a refreshing swim in the ocean, some of us expected it to be colder than it was. After a hot breakfast we did some more line work practicing our sailing skills. We then headed over to Deep water cove, where we got in the water for a snorkel and hand fed the local snapper with kina we collected off the bottom, once back at the ship we had a warming risotto made by Nick, then set sail for the hole in the rock. At the hole in the rock we dropped the tender and got to drive through the hole, what an incredible sight it was! We are currently enjoying a lovely sail to Whangamumu where we will anchor for the night.
Until tomorrow, Tucker whanau
