YTH2413 – Rā Tuatahi – Day 1

Our voyage began with the raising of sails and a happy farewell to family. We learned each other’s names as we motor sailed down the river and had a sausage sizzle lunch. A crisp Westerly picked up as we rounded Tapeka Pointmand we were anble to turn the engine off and sail proper. Out there, we met Balaena sailed solo by another Tucker skipper Magnus, who accompanied us almost all the way to Army Bay, Moturua Island. He snapped pictures as we waved fiercely!

At Army Bay, we dropped the hook and set to shore in our trusty tender. Once ashore we played a bit of touch with a soccer ball and then went for a walk up to the old army observation point bunker. Here, we got great views of both arms of the Bay and the area in between that will be our playground for the next days. We had quiet time, which didn’t end up being too quiet as we had too much to say to our new friends and then we all watched the sun set together.

We got back to the ship to a hot Nacho dinner prepared by Nic. We cleaned that up and are about to talk about what we want to do and where we want to go for the week and how we’re going to get there together. We have a calm anchorage and everyone is happy on the whole.
