YTH2416 – Rā Tuarima – Day 5

Today (after a sleep in!) we woke up to a beautiful, glassy morning in Rangihoua Bay. With Marsden Cross in the background we had another nice morning swim followed by usual chores and breakfast, including the rest of the sausages from yesterday. Yum!

We went to shore and walked up the track, reading some of the history panels on the way but mainly enjoying stretching our legs off the ship. Along the way, we met a few members of the public (didn’t scare them too much!) and got a lemon from the oldest lemon trees in NZ. Notably, a 93 year old making his way back up the track told some of us about the 3 Ds for life (Desire, Determination, Discipline) and to “enjoy every day. Try missing one!” Thanks Peter.

Carbonara pasta for lunch and we motored over to Moturoa and the Black Rocks. There, we got to go ashore and have a great afternoon. Some walked up to the old gun turrets and bunkers and some hung out on the beach. When everyone got back we played a blind fold tag game called Kite and then moved the ship back to Rangihoua Bay.

We’re getting ready for boil up for dinner and a game of spotlight tonight. Last full day tomorrow. Everyone has had a good recoup today. See you soon!
