What a calm day, we woke up to clear skies and calm seas ready for our first morning swim of the trip. Swimming a lap of the boat we were welcomed back with a quick warm rinse off before getting into the daily chores and breakfast.
The next part of the day we learned a bit more about the ship completing a lesson on how to operate our lines safely, learning some more advanced techniques like sweating to make sailing easier. The next station was climbing donning harnesses for the first time before getting into the up and over challenge. This involved everyone climbing up the foremast shrouds to the fore cap where they crossed from the starboard shrouds to port to climb back down. We had all 12 trainees complete this on their first try! With one group going up a second time to loose the topsails ready to sail.
And what a drift our sailing trip was we bobbed around at about 1 knot as the wind deserted us and swung around as it pleased. We tacked and then struck our sails going into Paradise Bay. From here we moved to the protected west side of Okahu island for a snorkel finding plenty of Kina and feeding some wrasse. Back at anchor we stowed our sails and had a fish, catching some small snapper and kahawai. Tonight we have a game of hide and seek and some brownies for dessert!
