Our youth development voyages have a unique funding model; like sailing a tall ship, it takes teamwork. The cost of a 7-day voyage is valued at $3,450 per trainee, and funding for each trainee placement is split three ways.
For students from the Tai Tokerau Northland region, the Trust aims to provide a subsidy to reduce the price. This comes from generous donations plus any surplus from our tourism season, meaning that all guests who sail with us contribute to our kaupapa.
We offer a Grant Scheme, under which trainees from Tai Tokerau can apply for funding for their voyage. We source funding from a large number of grants and sponsorships, and we use an application process through which trainees apply for the amount of funds relevant to their individual circumstances.
Each trainee is asked to contribute toward their voyage. This may involve fundraising, seeking sponsorship outside of our Grant Scheme, or working for the funds. We can also help with fundraising ideas. The amount that is contributed by each trainee is based on the resources available and the individual circumstances of their whānau.
