Qualified Deck Crew Training kick-off

Our Qualified Deck Crew (QDC) Training course starts today! ðŸŒŠ

Terry Dunn, who has supported the Trust for over 12 years, will deliver the training in partnership with Milo Coldren from SkipperTraining NZ. Our students are in great hands with knowledgable and experienced tutors, a wrap-around support system from the Tucker and accommodation with QRC Tai Tokerau.

Over the next two weeks, students will learn rope work, rules on the water, radar, radio, safety and more in the classroom and on board a variety of vessels in the bay, including the R. Tucker Thompson. On their last day, the practical training learnt will support students to sit their Maritime NZ Qualified Deckhand Crew Certificate exam.

With 12 placements available, an amazing 50% of the students are rangatahi who have finished a 7-day Youth Development Voyage with the Tucker. We’re proud that their experience on board with us have inspired them to go into the Maritime Industry.
