YTH2402 – Rā Tuatoru – Day 3

Our morning dip was the perfect introduction into the harbour we were yet to explore. Sunshine was out and moods were high. Now knowing how the ship runs, we set off about our daily tasks before munching on another wicked cooked breaky. Whangamumu has a rich whaling history, that we got to see as soon as we reached shore to discover the old whaling station. Our adventure on land continued as we followed a waterfall up into the sheltering native bush and then wandered down to the shore line to walk around the coast to the next bay. The incline we were faced with was worth the climb for the stunning view it gave us as well as the ideal hill covered bouncy grass, perfect for rolling on down. The tender took us back to the Tucker for a tasty lunch and the rope swing made its first appearance before we prepared the ship for the afternoon sail back into the Bay of Islands. We got to look up close at Motukokako ‘Hole in the Rock’ and Cape Brett lighthouse on the way. We are currently anchored at Urupukapuka, excited for tomorrow’s adventure!
