The R. Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust is pleased to offer scholarship
opportunities for our Tucker Trainees, to support their growth further. We have partnered
with three fantastic organisations the University of Waikato, the University
of Otago, and Outward Bound to support former trainees to access more life-changing experiences.
There is a dedicated R. Tucker Thompson scholarship for a Tucker Trainee to the value of $10,000 for the academic year 2025.

What is included: One $10,000 scholarship for study commencing 2025
Who can apply: New full-time undergraduate students who have attended an R. Tucker Thompson Youth Voyage in the last five years and intend to enrol for the first time in 2025

Since 2016 we have partnered with Otago University and they have been researching our trainees before and after voyages and undertaking more in-depth follow-up interviews.

Otago University offers a range of undergraduate entrance scholarships, recognising academic excellence, leadership qualities, ethnicity, financial hardship, disability, and excellence in sporting or cultural pursuits. You don’t need to worry about applying for specific scholarships, you will be considered for all applicable scholarships when you apply, make sure to mention that you are a Tucker Trainee in your application.

The Outward Bound scholarship is for an 8-day Mind Body Soul Compact course – valued at $3,500 (travel and medical not included) and suitable for rangatahi aged 16-18. There are four places available.

Who can apply: Four places available for Tucker Trainees, aged 16-18 years. You will be in the same watch as 3 other Tucker trainees
