Have you ever dreamed of working at sea on a boat? Now is your chance! R. Tucker Thompson have teamed up with Queenstown Resort College Tai Tokerau (QRC) and Skipper Training NZ to deliver a Maritime Training and Tourism Operations Course.
With hands on learning, you’ll be ready to jump on the boats this summer season. Earn a QRC Certificate in Tourism Operations (Level 4) and work towards a Qualified Deck Crew (QDC) certificate.

The Programme
The programme will deliver the QRC Tourism Operations programme with a focus on Maritime NZ Qualified Deckhand Crew certification. This combination of course content makes up the Maritime Tourism Operations course. Students will work towards two certificates qualifications shaped to suit the current local job market.

The course will be delivered over 17 weeks from July to November. Students will have the opportunity to apply for jobs on the water for the 2022 summer.
Students can access accommodation, meals and pastoral care through the QRC campus. Students can access Fees Free study, student financial support and thus obtain subsidised education and a clear pathway to work.
Tucker Thompson have sourced funding through the Mayors Task Force for Jobs and support from the MSD Community Recovery Programme to deliver the QDC programme. This means this portion of the course is subsidized.
Tutors will be both tourism and maritime experts from Queenstown Resort College R. Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust and Skipper Training NZ.
Students will spend time on different boats in the bay and work towards summer jobs on the water.
