We woke up to another sunny day after a quiet night anchorage with everyone keen to get up and start the day! Breakfast was prepared cereal and toast. Trying not to waste food, leftover dinner of boil up was offered – Santana was keen with a helping of tomato sauce!
After the morning duties, Luke was up for a Tucker challenge Bailey also and Sihrene. Hannah sat up for a while, none of the first three enjoyed it but achieved and Sihrene told herself “you got this girl”. Then time for Lit’l Tuc to go in the water with Santana and Ngatai first eager to get in the boat. It wasn’t not long before Daemon and Ivan followed, all of them encouraged challenges.
Then time to move on to Whangaruru harbour with Luke, Bailey, Daemon, Ngatai and Ivan taking to their anchorage duties. Bridgette, Gemma, Kate, Mazaine, Hannah, Santana and Sihrene hoisted the main sail to get us underway for our passage. Once there and anchored, we went ashore to climb the hill with more amazing views of Helena bay and the Poor Knights, what an amazing place we call home. Wayne, Santana and Ivan counted the steps along the way. 480 steps estimated going up the hill! We were all pleased to get to the top catch up with the front group and enjoy group photos of our achievement. We reckoned there were 98 steps down hill to Whangaruru Camp Ground , en route passed the Blue Orb Trust building. We learned that from there they do important restoration and Kiwi protection over the Conservation land.
Our resident photographer Ivan took more group photos, doing a great job. One last climb to the top of the hill
with more photos and then final descent back to the beach.
Back on board Luke and Bailey make a well deserved hot chocolate and marshmallows for all trainees. Tim preparing our dinner of Corned beef and vegetables with a mustard sauce, yum! Tonight we will anchor in Te Toroa and we all voted tomorrow for a 5am start to watch the sunrise, look for the whales and head to the iconic Hole in the Rock.
