cutting a cake

Ahoy from the R. Tucker T.

We have sure covered some miles today! Morning swim was started off by Rawhiti this morning. Then duties were completed, and breakfast eaten. With the wind gentle and the sun shining, it was a perfect time for trainees to have a go at the Tucker challenge.

First to complete it was Luis! Followed closely by Zhynaliah, Nikita, Reuben, Wano, Ryan, Keiran, Selous, Kali and Ngakau. Well done.

Then it was time for a belated birthday cake for Keiran to fuel us for our walk ashore. We went to walk out to the lighthouse but got halfway and the tide had filled in too much for everyone to get across, so we did a 15 minute silence instead, looking out to the Poor Knights- our adventure place yesterday.

Then we trekked back to the dingy and went back to the ship for a hot lunch of curried sausages. After lunch and dishes, trainees got on their stations and got busy with navigation, engine checks and anchor duties.

Anchor up, we left the shelter of Tutukaka Harbour and boosted off towards the Whangarei Harbour. On the way trainees learnt some knots, pointed out familiar places like Pataua and Ocean Beach and saw heaps of sea birds and pods of Common dolphins!

Just at last light, we entered the Whangarei Harbour and dropped the anchor at Urqharts Bay for our overnight anchorage.

We have just had a big feed of delicious lasagne and trainees are about to be introduced to the famous card game Mafia.
