YTH 2318 – Rā Tuatahi – Day One

Today was the beginning of our epic adventure, three toots of the horn and we were waving goodbye to our whānau and setting sails. We weren’t sailing for too long when chef Andre served up our iconic mac n’ cheese for our first meal of the voyage. We were given an orientation of the ship and had an introduction to line handling. The weather was so beautiful that we had to take full advantage of it so we decided to anchor up in Motuarohia, chuck on our wetsuits and head for a dive in the lagoon. There we picked kina and saw an abundance of sea life and went through a cave.
The evening was fast approaching so we headed back to the ship, got changed into some warm clothes and harnessed up for some awesome climbing, up and over we go!
While we were climbing the shrouds we couldn’t help but notice the delicious aroma coming from the galley. It was chef Arihi’s tasty nacho’s. We needed to walk that dinner off so we headed back to the Island to the top of the lookout. We took some time to reflect on our adventure packed day before heading back to the ship. We ended our day with a peach crumble dessert and are now tucked in our beds snug and ready for the next day.
