YTH-2319B Ra Tuatahi – Day One

Kia Ora Whanau,

Welcome back to our blog and warmest of welcomes to our new listeners with Rangatahi onboard this week.

We are in for an extra special voyage this week with a group of 10 trainees onboard from the Work Ready programme here in Tai Tokerau.

We have already achieved so much in our first few hours together. After throwing lines at the wharf we set sail and made our way out into the Bay. Along the way we learnt about each other and the ship. Next we worked in our watches to create the tallest tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows to test out our team dynamics.
We anchored up in Homestead Bay and went ashore for some bonding games and challenges and then some of us swam back to the ship (about 460m!!) Back aboard it was time to don harnesses and learn about how to navigate the rigging. By the time we were coming down from aloft the smell of Cottage Pie was filling the air and dinner was close on the horizon.
We are a happy and rowdy bunch settling in well to ship life.

Till Tomorrow
