YTH 2409 – Rā Tuawha – Day 4

What a wonderful nights sleep in our calm anchorage last night. We were up ready to jump into the water, it was so misty this morning. After our dip we were right into our cleaning and breakfast, leftover shepherds pie, yum! Not long after that we headed to Paradise Bay, Urupukapuka Island where we met with Project Island Song, a wildlife restoration program within the Bay of Islands. Today we tracked wētāpunga with ink pads and a lot of peanut butter. No wētāpunga today, just a lot of weka prints. It was time to say good bye to our friends at Project Island Song. To make the most of our time we played beach games in the sand, all you could hear was laughter through the bay. It was time to head back to the ship for a swim and prepare for our sail to Oke Bay. Off we went toward Deep Water Cove. We dropped anchor in Oke Bay for lunch, creamy rice risotto and a quick snorkel on the reef, we saw massive snapper here in the reserve. We were racing the sun today so it was a quick up anchor, sails up and off we went. Our next adventure takes us past Motukokako (Whole in the Rock) heading to Whangamumu Harbour tonight. It’s a delicious bangers and mash for dinner tonight. We look to play a few rounds of spotlight on shore before bedtime. What a beautiful day today, full of new experiences and adventure. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead tomorrow. Until then. Mā te wā
