YTH 2413 – Rā Tuawhā – Day 4

Our day began with another crisp dip in the moana, the water was so flat and calm. We were into our morning chores while breakfast was cooking. Scrambled eggs on toast with fried potatoes. After our delicious breakfast it was time to head ashore to Marsden Cross. Our focus for today was tūhono Thursday, connecting with our moana, our whenua and ourselves. During our walk we learnt about the history of Rangihoua and met some of New Zealand’s oldest lemon trees, beautiful Puriri and Kawakawa. We walked to the top where we played a game of camouflage. It was fast approaching midday and we were hungry. It’s a sad story when the cook is on the walk as well, so it was back to the ship we march. While waiting for lunch we learnt about navigation and reading charts. “Lunch is ready!” Mac n’ cheese! Two massive trays gone with no leftovers! We’re now sailing to Urupukapuka Bay with a max speed of 7.5 kts under 6 sails. It is a calm anchorage for the night here. Lasagna was whipped up for dinner while we played games on the ship. We look to play ship hide and seek for the rest of the night. What a big day today. We look forward to more adventures tomorrow. Until then. Pō mārie
