YTH 2417 – Rā Tua Tahi – Day 1

With a fresh breeze from the North and sunny skies we departed Opua wharf. Trainees and crew quickly raised sail and waved goodbye to whānau. As we headed to our first destination, ships business began with a thorough safety briefing followed by a delicious lunch served up by Arihi. Thank you Arihi! The wind increased as we played the name game and found our footing on aboard ship and with each other. Finally we dropped anchor at Marsden Cross, a fine sheltered cove and perfect place to venture up the Tucker’s rigging for an up-and-over. Then to the tender to go to shore for hike and a session about our plans for the week. Back to the boat for a swim/dinner and a quick spot of fishing. We rounded up our first day of the voyage chatting around the saloon table. It’s been a full on day, everyone was into bed with a second mention. We look forward to our next day of adventure.
