A 5:30am start, set the tone for what was an amazing day. We pulled ourselves out of bed with torches in hand to tackle the dukes nose hike before the sun had rose. We summited the rock just in time to be able to sit and watch the sun rise through the fjords of Whangaroa harbour, after enjoying the sunrise we headed back down the track to jump in the water for our morning swim, the still water was so inviting everyone was jumping in multiple times. With chores finished and breakfast had, we took off on the next adventure, heading to shore to explore a hidden ww2 bunker with a great view looking over the entrance of the harbour. Once back to the boat we had a delicious fried rice cooked by the skipper, before raising full sail and sailing out of the harbour, as we approached our next stop “The Arrows” the oldest rocks in New Zealand, we were greeted by a pod of orcas splashing and playing along the shore, we all watched the show for a while before they headed off continuing along the coast. The incredible geology was fascinating to explore and see up close. One more time we raised our sails and made our way as the sun set to our anchorage of Mahinepua for the night. A well earned lamb and potato bake awaits us for dinner. Spirits are high as we discuss the plans for tomorrow and we look forward to a rest tonight. Until tomorrow.
