We stayed dry! Today was beautiful, starting with project island song in the morning we hiked from paradise bay to otehei bay to meet our hosts. While waiting at otehei we got into some games playing 3 rounds of 3 blind mice on the grass area before exploring the jetty area. After the ferry arrived we learned about project island song and the flora and fauna which they have been working protect and restore on the islands across the bay. After a quick quiz/memory test about the reintroduced animal species we hiked back over the hill to paradise bay where we completed the Wetapunga monitoring. This involves 10 tracking tunnels which have been set by previous trainees using a bait of peanut butter to attract Wetapunga when they move down to the ground to mate.
Returning to the ship it was time to sail we had a beautiful North Easterly blowing which we used to sail across the bay from Urupukapuka to Te Puna Inlet our night anchorage. We got up to 6.5 knots completely under sail power. On the way we did some bow sprit and fore mast climbing. With some of our bow sprit riders getting wet as they rode the waves. Coming into anchor for the night we have now stowed our sails and eagerly awaiting our cottage pie dinner with sticky date pudding to follow.
