Kia ora whanau
Day 1 is almost over already, and what a great start to our voyage!
After waving goodbye to the friends and whanau on the wharf, trainees hoisted the sails and we made our way out into the Bay of Islands.
A game of names was held around the helm as we sailed past Tapeka point. Then we had a big feed of Macaroni cheese while we sailed along at a nice speed of 6 knots!
Lunch dishes were done by awesome volunteers: Daze
Then trainees went through an orientation through the ship to become familiar with everything on board. Next, the harnesses were dusted off and trainees went through climbing aloft and on the bowsprit.
Once we pulled up to our overnight anchorage, we pulled the sails down and dropped anchor.
Then it was time for a trip ashore to play some games on the beach and burn off some energy. Trainees are all working together amazingly well, especially considering they just met today!
Once back on the ship, a few crazy trainees decided to show off their bombs and jump into the freezing water!
Now the smells of our delicious dinner cooking in the oven is wafting through the ship, and trainees are filling in their daily logs.
