YTH2304 – Rā Tuarua- Day Two

Kia ora e te whānau

Sorry for another bowsprit photo but we had an even better time out there today than we did yesterday! What an epic day out here on te Moana. We started the morning with some intensive sail training, learning how to handle the lines and about all the individual sails. Then it was time to embark on a journey out to sea! Tāwhiri was howling across the islands, and as we came past Moturua most of us piled out on the bowsprit to ride the swell. We were all geared up in our rain gear but we hopelessly all got drenched through to the skin regardless, as the bow plunged into the water below. Meanwhile Bella was handling the helm, nice and dry with a massive smile plastered on her face as she drove her shipmates towards a perilous sea.

Soon enough we were finding calmer waters and we coasted into our anchorage for the night, Paradise Bay at Urupukapuka Island. After a quick warm meal we jumped in the dinghy and went to shore to explore the island. We walked up to see the stunning cliff views and hear the bountiful bird life.
We’re back on the ship safe and sound awaiting a delicious lasagna and hunkering down from the elements
