YTH2308 – Rā Tuatoru – Day 3

Wow we’re nearly half way!

Today we woke up at Awaawaroa and had a navigation lesson after all of the usual ‘formalities’. We then set sail out around the back of the islands and over to Deep Water Cove. We sailed for ages, the wind was perfect and the sea wasn’t as rough as the other day! We saw rain coming down out on the horizon but it missed us. First Mate Adam also ran us through an extra safety at sea lesson and made us a sausage sizzle for lunch. Once we got to Deep Water Cove we leaned about rocky reef ecosystems, did a breathing exercise and then went for a snorkel. We saw heaps of snapper and other fish on the reef, it was awesome! By the time we got back, Skipper Pete was pretty keen to get moving so we upped anchor and motor sailed into the sunset (and headwind) back to the shelter of Parekura Bay. We have had a meke boil up for dinner. Happy tummies, happy sailors! Ready to do some mahi helping out Project Island Song tomorrow. Maybe star gazing tonight 🙂
