YTH2315 – Rā Tuawhā – Day 4

Wow, hi everybody!

At midday today we reached the halfway point of our voyage. The whole of today ended up being a bit of a party day in Paradise Bay because of that. We haven’t moved and are still here now!

In the morning, after our breakfast, we got wet suited up (which takes a while on this ship) and went for an exploration snorkel around the North West end of the bay. Some of us proved to be pretty prolific hunter-gatherers and pretty soon we had our fair share of Kina and oysters! We were welcomed back to the ship with a pumpkin soup and garlic bread lunch from our captain and had a good time getting into our catch too.

After lunch and dishes/digestion, we had an obstacle course race up and down the ship. This got us warmed up for the famous Trifecta of activities: Tucker Challenge climbing up the fore shrouds and out to the end of the lower topsail yard; learning Tender driving; and getting to sail Little Tuck. It was sunny with a nice amount of breeze and we really understand why Paradise Bay has its name after today.

We have just had a mean Boil Up dinner from Arihi, are getting ready for another of Tom’s Afghan biscuits for dessert and then a Kiwi search and a game of Spotlight on the beach.

Halfway whānau, see you again in person after the next half (we will still do blogs til then)!
