YTH2317 – Rā Tuarima – Day Five

Kia ora Whānau,

Today began with our classic early morning dip in the crisp blue ocean. After cleaning our stations we then tucked into some scrambled eggs on toast and porridge for breakfast. After checking out some potential dive spots we scooted past Long Beach and sailed toward Motuarohia Island. We were then drawn to the delicious aroma of pad Thai for lunch. After lunch, we soon packed our wetsuits and headed to the island for a dive in the rock pools. There we saw an abundance of sea life thriving in the pools and surrounding areas. After the dive, we headed up to the lookout to check out the best view in the Bay of Islands. The water was so inviting after the walk we decided to swim back to the ship. As soon as we got back we set the sails and sailed to our next anchorage. Along the way, we tacked and gybed making sure we had enough puff in her sails with 8 knots under sail. We are now anchored up in Moturua Island for the night, with full bellies from the delicious shepherd’s pie and baked Afghan slice we are now waiting for the cover of darkness for a magical kiwi walk through the bush track.
Stay tuned for more epic adventures whānau.
