YTH2404 – Rā Tuatoru – Day 3

Last night we played ship hide n’ seek. It was so funny trying to figure out where everyone was hiding, the ship was full of laughter and we all went to bed with smiles on our faces. Rise and shine sunshines! up on deck for our morning dip! It was a refreshing one at that. Straight after our swim we were into our cleaning stations. Scrubbing decks and mopping below. The smell of baked beans, creamed mushrooms and fried ham was a mild distraction as we powered through our morning routine. After our delicious breakfast it was time to learn more about our different sail stations, raise the anchor and sail off of our anchorage. Out into the deeper waters we went. Underway we asked if we could learn more about navigation so we learnt how to sail on a course bearing. We were heading toward 9 Pin then tacked back in on a new course to Motuarohia Island. The breeze swept us around the eastern side of the island into a nice holding spot. Lunch is up! Chicken curry and toasted cheese dippers, a welcoming meal after a hearty sail. That lunch was so good that we had to walk it off. On the dinghy we go for beach games and a walk to the look out. We looked down at our playground for the rest of the week. We saw beautiful swimming spots and said “can we swim there?” The crew smiled and said “ of course!” So it was back down to shore for a quick game and back to the ship to move her to an ideal swim spot. Once there we had a pool party, set up the swing, did some bombs and some back slaps, picked kina and lifted anchor to our safe anchorage, tucked away in Kiekie Cove, Motukiekie Island. Tonight we’re going to learn how to catch and prepare fish and hopefully it’s fried fish for breakfast tomorrow. Another great day of exploring and making memories. We’re looking forward to more exciting activities tomorrow. We will let you know tomorrow if we had fish for breakfast. Until then. Ma te wa!
